Courage Village Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference

The Courage Village Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference came about after the deaths by suicide of two Napa youth three years ago. Aldea and our community partners came together to address those deaths, resulting in the first Courage Village Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference in 2016 at Napa Valley College. That conference was a half-day, panel led discussion of suicide. Knowing that we could do more, the 2nd Annual Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference took place in 2017, again at Napa Valley College. The 2nd conference included two breakout sessions with limited workshops in English and Spanish. When approximately 320 people attended the conference in 2017, Aldea again knew  that we needed to do more and determined to offer a full-day conference with a multitude of workshops covering a variety of topics all related to mental health and suicide prevention and awareness.

For the 3rd Annual Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference, Aldea is excited to offer a full-day conference on suicide prevention and awareness for residents of Napa and Solano counties. The conference will feature 17 speakers in 15 workshops, and a keynote address to kick things off. In addition to the workshops, conference attendees will be served a continental breakfast (at 8:00 a.m.) and a hot, buffet style lunch (at 12:00 p.m.).

We are pleased to have Kevin Berthia as our keynote speaker. For those who attended our conference last year and heard retired CHP Officer Kevin Briggs speak about the man he talked into not jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge, Kevin Berthia is that man!

This year we will offer Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) for social workers. We will have workshop tracks for Latino families, teenagers and their families, medical professionals, and general interest.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP16728 for 6.00 credits.

Several community partners will have information tables set up at the conference for you to visit. Please take time to stop by and say hello to our partners and learn about the many resources we have available.

At the request of the County of Napa, Aldea, along with many of our community partners, joined together to form the Napa County Suicide Prevention Council in November 2017. The council is working together to bring awareness to the stigma surrounding suicide, and to provide appropriate resources to make a positive difference in our community.
