January 20, 2009 The Napa Chamber has announced the Napa Valley Register will be awarded business of the Year for 2008 at its annual awards dinner on January 23, 2009, at the Silverado Resort. In a timely twist of fate The Register played a critical role in the birth of the Napa Chamber 120 years ago; in 1889 then Register owner/publisher, George M. Francis, called together a group of concerned business owners and convened a group of concerned citizens to discuss the need to improve the dusty streets and bumpy sidewalks.
This group of businessmen eventually formed the Napa Chamber of Commerce to continue the leadership role in the growing town of Napa. Since that time the Napa Valley Register has consistently delivered on their promise to play a significant role in publishing local news, supporting community endeavors and providing an effective venue for local businesses and non-profits to get their message out. A culture of giving back permeates the company, whether it be through community involvement of their management team, taking a leadership role in recycling and repurposing their materials or providing focus stories and advertising space to the Valley’s many non-profit organizations. In recognition of their outstanding and innovative work the Napa Valley Register was recently named “Best Local News Site” for napavalleyregister.com by the Suburban Newspapers of America - a nationwide trade organization - in March of 2008.
When notified of the Napa Chamber Business of the Year Award publisher Brenda Speth said, “Every one of us really appreciates this recognition - and it’s a tribute to every employee that represents the Napa Valley Register in the communities we serve.” Congratulations to the entire team at the Napa Valley Register for a job well done.
